The City of Canton is a growing community of nearly 28,000 residents serenely located along the Etowah River with convenient access to Interstate 575, State Highways 20 and 140. In the heart of Canton is a beautifully preserved and bustling downtown. As the county seat for Cherokee, downtown Canton is home to many government services as well as a growing retail and restaurant scene. In the past year, over 250,000 square feet of historic space have been under redevelopment in the central business district. Downtown is home to an active Main Street Program, arts and history scene, has a thriving City-owned theatre, and every available economic development tool in place, including a Downtown Development Authority. This position will report directly to the City Manager and assist the work of varied local boards, including Main Street, DDA, and Canton Tourism.
This position is responsible for leading efforts in collaboration between varied downtown interests, all the while promoting the local values in assisting with expansion of the downtown economy. Working with local businesses, non-profits, real estate experts, financial institutions, and developers, the Downtown Development Manager will have a hands-on approach in growing investment in one of Georgia’s largest designated Historic Districts. The position will work with other City departments in creating and promoting opportunities to highlight downtown Canton through events, social media, public relations, programs of education and outreach. The position will be responsible for managing varied reports, timelines and data collection related to local, state, and national programs with which the City is affiliated. The Downtown Development Manager must work a flexible schedule that may include activities early mornings, during normal business hours, and after hours, including weekends and holidays. The position will become an active member in regional and statewide organizations that promote downtown development, Main Street principles, preservation, and economic development activities. The position will work specifically with downtown property and business owners to understand their needs, concerns, and work with appropriate City staff to deliver and environment for economic growth.

Starting salary for this position is $51,308.59 annually dependent upon qualifications & experience.
