Trash, Recycling & Brush Pick Up

City of Canton's contracted residential waste hauler is Waste Management.

Waste Management offers 95-gallon carts for household waste and 65-gallon carts or 18-gallon bins for mixed recycling.

Yard waste is picked up weekly. 


Please place carts at curb no later than 6:00 AM on collection day.

Household Waste:

Maximum of 8 additional bags of household waste, yard waste or the combination of the two.

All trash must be bagged.

NOT ACCEPTABLE: construction waste, tires, batteries, oils, carpet, hazardous materials including chemicals of any kind, paint (unless solidified completely per EPD guidelines), Freon, or medical waste.  For information on paint solidification:

Yard Waste:

Grass clippings and leaves must be bagged or placed in a separate container labeled yard waste.

Limbs must be bundled and tied with rope or string. Bundles may not exceed 30 pounds & cannot be greater than 4 inches in diameter and 4 feet long.

NOT ACCEPTABLE: tree trunks/ stumps, limbs greater than 4 inches in diameter and 4 ft. long, whole trees, logs, dirt and rocks.


Waste Management collects flattened cardboard, mixed paper, magazines, chipboard, clean plastics #1-7, steel, tin and aluminum cans.  All items, including flattened cardboard must fit inside recycle cart or bin.

NOT ACCEPTABLE: glass, aluminum foil, wrapping paper, register rolls, envelopes, photos, plastic bags, aerosol cans, bottle caps, light bulbs, wood, dishware, pots & pans, Styrofoam packaging, wax-covered cups or hangers.

If your regularly scheduled service day falls on or after an observed holiday, your service will be delayed by one day to ensure everyone is serviced. We will run on Saturdays those weeks to accommodate this schedule.

Curbside Recycling

The City of Canton offers residents curbside recycling.


Starting Dec. 1, 2017, in an effort to offer more disposal options and better serve the residents of the City of Canton, we are now offering FREE trash disposal to all residents that live within the city limits of Canton at our Canton City Collection Site located at 2525 Ridge Road. The Canton City Collection Site will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays.
In addition, the Canton City Collection Site will be open each day of the week following Christmas (Tuesday, Dec. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 30) to receive excess refuse from the holiday (no food related trash, please).

Free City cleanup day with dumpsters & electronic recycling at City Hall
The City of Canton’s “Dumpster Days” is a great opportunity for any Canton resident to dispose of trash, unwanted items, up to 10 tires per resident and recycle many electronics free of charge at City Hall (151 Elizabeth St.) from 8 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of each month.
Please note—Canton Dumpster Days are provided for City of Canton residents only. Please bring proof of residency when dropping items off. 
Items accepted:
Computers/Laptops, Gaming Systems, VCR/DVD players, Stereo Equipment, Vacuums, Microwave/Toasters. Hair Dryer, Curling Iron, Tools, Wires & Cables (all types), Phones (cellphones & home phone systems), Printers/Fax machines, Washers/dryers, dishwashers and other home appliances (excluding refrigerators), Sofas, Mattresses, Dry paint

Items NOT accepted:
CRT TV or Monitor (Old style tube TV's or computer monitor), refrigerators, fuel tanks, motor oil, fuel drums, household hazardous waste, antifreeze, wet paint, paint thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals or commercial waste.

Did you know the City of Canton and Waste Management will pick up your yard waste?


City of Canton residents can call the Canton Public Works Department at 770.720.7674 to schedule yard waste, such as weeds, grass, hedge trimmings, leaves, brush and tree limbs, for pick up using the following guidelines:
Leaves, grass clippings and yard waste (small sticks and brush) should be placed in paper lawn waste bags to receive expedited service. Paper bags can be purchased at hardware and grocery stores. The use of plastic bags for yard waste is prohibited. Rocks and dirt are not accepted (including plants and shrubs with dirt attached to the root system) and should not be placed in lawn waste bags (Do not combine leaves with any brush).
A maximum of 6 bags will be collected weekly per residential property.
Loose leaf pick-up can be requested as well, but will be scheduled based on availability.
Brush and limbs must have a diameter smaller than 6” and a length no greater than 6’. The overall size of the pile shall not be taller than 6’ or wider than 6’ 
The City of Canton will pick up brush once a week per residential property, upon request.
Removal of leaves, grass clippings, brush and trees cut by contractors will be the responsibility of the resident’s contractor.
Do not stack yard waste in the street, blocking sidewalks, near fire hydrants, cable or utility boxes, stormwater catch basins, mailboxes or any other public utility receptacles.

City of Canton Yard Debris pick-ups must be requested by a resident. To schedule a pick up of yard debris that meets the above criteria, please contact the City of Canton Public Works Department at 770.720.7674 


Waste Management will also pick up yard waste as part of your regular weekly service with the following guideline:

Weekly limit of 8 brown recycle bags, bundles or combination of the two (not to exceed the 8 bag limit for trash and yard waste combined).
Must be at curb before 6 a.m. on collection day.
Grass clippings and leaves must be in bags or placed loose in a separate container labeled “Yard Waste.”
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED INCLUDE: tree trunks, limbs greater than 4" in diameter, whole trees, logs, dirt, rocks, Christmas trees.


The City of Canton will help you recycle your Christmas trees for FREE after the holidays.
Drop-off your live tree (without lights/decorations) at the Canton Collection Site located at 2525 Ridge Road Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Dec. 26 through the end of January (site closed on Jan. 1 and Jan. 15 for City of Canton holidays).
