WASTE AND RECYCLING GUIDELINES

Please place carts at the curb no later than 7 AM on collection day.

CURBSIDE GARBAGE COLLECTION

  • Place all bagged garbage in the 95-gallon cart and set curbside prior to 7 am on your scheduled day of collection
  • Only contents of the cart will be collected at curbside. If you have extra bags, please visit the City's collection site at 2525 Ridge Rd. The Canton Collection Site is free to all City Residents and has the following hours of operation: 

Monday & Tuesday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Closed for 1-2 p.m. for lunch)

Wednesday: CLOSED

Thursday- Saturday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Closed for 1-2 p.m. for lunch)

Sunday: CLOSED

CURBSIDE RECYCLING COLLECTION

  • Pickup is on the same day as your garbage collection
  • Place all recyclables in the gray container provided and set curbside prior
    to 7 am on your scheduled day.
  • Acceptable recyclables include: plastics #1-#7, newspaper, cardboard,
    aluminum and tin cans, junk mail, magazines, office and school papers
  • Due to market conditions, glass will not be accepted curbside, however,
    there will be a container for glass bottles at the City's collection site at
    2525 Ridge Rd.

 

CURBSIDE YARD WASTE COLLECTION

  • Pickup is once per week on the same day as your scheduled garbage collection day
  • Place yard waste curbside prior to 7 am on your scheduled collection day
  • Small yard waste debris such as leaves and grass clippings must be in brown paper bags with a limit of 8 bags per week
  • Limbs must not exceed 4 feet in length or 4 inches in diameter or weigh
    more than 30 lbs

CURBSIDE BULK WASTE COLLECTION

  • Bulk items are limited to one item per week and must be pre-scheduled
  • Pickup is once per week on the same day as your scheduled garbage collection day
  • Limited to one item per week and must be pre-scheduled


Holiday Schedule For Garbage Service

New Year's Day — One day delay in service

Thanksgiving Day — One day delay in service

Christmas Day — One day delay in service

If your regularly scheduled service day falls on or after an observed holiday, your service will be delayed by one day to ensure everyone is serviced. Advanced Disposal service will run on Saturdays those weeks to accommodate this schedule.

In an effort to offer more disposal options and better serve the residents of the City of Canton, we offer FREE trash disposal to all residents that live within the city limits of Canton at our Canton City Collection Site located at 2525 Ridge Road.

DUMPSTER DAYS

Free City cleanup day with dumpsters & electronic recycling at City Hall
The City of Canton’s “Dumpster Days” is a great opportunity for any Canton resident to dispose of trash, unwanted items, up to 10 tires per resident and recycle many electronics free of charge at 151 Elizabeth St. from 8 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of each month.
Please note—Canton Dumpster Days are provided for City of Canton residents only. Please bring proof of residency when dropping items off. 
Items accepted:
Computers/Laptops, Gaming Systems, VCR/DVD players, Stereo Equipment, Vacuums, Microwave/Toasters. Hair Dryer, Curling Iron, Tools, Wires & Cables (all types), Phones (cellphones & home phone systems), Printers/Fax machines, Washers/dryers, dishwashers and other home appliances (excluding refrigerators), Sofas, Mattresses, Dry paint

Items NOT accepted:
CRT TV or Monitor (Old style tube TV's or computer monitor), refrigerators, fuel tanks, motor oil, fuel drums, household hazardous waste, antifreeze, wet paint, paint thinners, pesticides, pool chemicals or commercial waste.

YARD WASTE PICK UP

Did you know the City of Canton and Advanced Disposal will pick up your yard waste?


CITY OF CANTON BRUSH SERVICE

City of Canton residents can call the Canton Public Works Department at 770.720.7674 to schedule yard waste, such as weeds, grass, hedge trimmings, leaves, brush and tree limbs, for pick up using the following guidelines:
Leaves, grass clippings and yard waste (small sticks and brush) should be placed in paper lawn waste bags to receive expedited service. Paper bags can be purchased at hardware and grocery stores. The use of plastic bags for yard waste is prohibited. Rocks and dirt are not accepted (including plants and shrubs with dirt attached to the root system) and should not be placed in lawn waste bags (Do not combine leaves with any brush).
A maximum of 6 bags will be collected weekly per residential property.
Loose leaf pick-up can be requested as well, but will be scheduled based on availability.
Brush and limbs must have a diameter smaller than 6” and a length no greater than 6’. The overall size of the pile shall not be taller than 6’ or wider than 6’ 
The City of Canton will pick up brush once a week per residential property, upon request.
Removal of leaves, grass clippings, brush and trees cut by contractors will be the responsibility of the resident’s contractor.
Do not stack yard waste in the street, blocking sidewalks, near fire hydrants, cable or utility boxes, stormwater catch basins, mailboxes or any other public utility receptacles.

City of Canton Yard Debris pick-ups must be requested by a resident. To schedule a pick up of yard debris that meets the above criteria, please contact the City of Canton Public Works Department at 770.720.7674 

ADVANCED DISPOSAL BRUSH SERVICE

Advanced Disposal will also pick up yard waste as part of your regular weekly service with the following guideline:
Limbs must be bundled and tied with rope or string. Bundles may not exceed 30 lbs. and cannot be greater than 4' long and 4" in diameter.
Weekly limit of 8 brown recycle bags, bundles or combination of the two (not to exceed the 8 bag limit for trash and yard waste combined).
Must be at curb before 7 a.m. on collection day.
Grass clippings and leaves must be in bags or placed loose in a separate container labeled “Yard Waste.”
ITEMS NOT ACCEPTED INCLUDE: tree trunks, limbs greater than 4" in diameter, whole trees, logs, dirt, rocks, Christmas trees.



CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING: “BRING ONE FOR THE CHIPPER”

The City of Canton will help you recycle your Christmas trees for FREE after the holidays.
Drop-off your live tree (without lights/decorations) at the Canton Collection Site located at 2525 Ridge Road Dec. 26 through the end of January.
