On Dec. 4., the community, City leadership and staff, and officials from the park's design and construction organizations gathered to break ground on the City's newest park coming to South Canton.
The 5-acre park in South Canton, located at 2935 Marietta Highway, will feature a multi-level playground, sky walk in the trees, small amphitheater, pavilion, green space, public restrooms, paved walking trail, and the amenity you've all been asking for...a dog park, with separate areas for small and large dogs!
“This is a huge win for our City and residents for the development of our first innovative park in South Canton!" said Mayor Bill Grant.
Residents of Canton provided feedback in the creation of the City’s award-winning Roadmap for Success and the Canton Transportation Masterplan, and from that, City leadership found that a park in the South Canton area was greatly needed and desired.
“Canton residents listed the need for a state-of-the-art dog park as one of their top goals in the Roadmap planning back in 2020,” noted City Manager Billy Peppers. “We look forward to beginning the construction of this park and meeting the desires of our citizens.”
While the overall project will include funding from special purpose local option sales taxes SPLOST and recreational impact fees, a 2.2M grant awarded by Governor Kemp's office from the ARPA program will be used to address needs for accessible playground equipment and the much-anticipated dog park.
The park in South Canton is expected to open in Spring of 2027.
