The City of Canton is currently working to expand their public art reach through the adoption of a Public Art Plan and through the implementation of a variety of public art projects. In 2021, the City of Canton established the Canton Cultural Arts Commission (CCAC). The vision of the CCAC is for the streets, parks, events, and sites in Canton to be made more beautiful and meaningful through a collective and sustained effort to incorporate, celebrate, and promote arts of all kinds in Canton. By advancing arts and culture as an essential element of life in Canton, the Commission seeks to build community and connectivity while increasing economic development opportunities and promoting tourism.
PROJECT PURPOSE AND BACKGROUND
To support the vision of the City of Canton and its Cultural Arts Commission, the City is seeking to place a sculpture in Heritage Park near the Waleska Street Bridge. Heritage Park is made up of 48 acres featuring a one-mile concrete walking trail connecting to Etowah River Trail and Etowah River Park, recreational field space used for soccer, and a new turf-base playground. A budget of $20,000.00 has been allocated for the sculpture and is all inclusive of any design, fabrication, delivery, installation, equipment rental, materials, and artist fee. The City of Canton will be responsible for installation of concrete pad with specifications from the selected artist.
A stipend of $300.00 will be provided for up to three finalists for the development of concepts.
