The City of Canton Public Works Department is committed to providing the most efficient and economical service possible to the citizens of Canton. The Public Works Department includes right-of-way management, streets and parks maintenance and inclement weather support, among many other important city functions.
This position is responsible for the maintenance of all city infrastructure including city streets, facilities, parks, and grounds. The work includes maintenance and construction work for the purpose of maintaining and repairing city roads, curbs, shoulders, and sidewalks within the City of Canton right-of-ways. Duties may include but are not limited to: mowing, weed eating, blowing and edging, trimming trees and shrubbery, collecting and disposing of leaves, brush and refuse, installing and finishing concrete, cleaning storm drains and gutters and responding to after-hour emergencies.
Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major job duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had similar position for one to two years.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. An incumbent in this position may be designated “Public Works Technician II” with the possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Starting hourly rate for this position is $14.33 dependent upon qualifications & experience.
