CANTON, GA - August 17, 2026 -   The Canton Police Department is investigating a domestic violence incident that resulted in a woman being shot and a suspect being taken into custody.

On Saturday, August 15, 2026, at approximately 2:45 a.m., Canton Police officers responded to 127 Park Village Drive regarding a reported domestic dispute involving a firearm and an injured person.

Upon arrival, Canton Police officers, with assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, made entry into the residence to render aid. Officers located an adult female, identified as Kimberly Reed, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Officers provided first aid until Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services arrived. Reed was transported to Kennestone Hospital for treatment.

Two of the couple’s adult children, ages 18 and 20, were inside the home when the incident occurred and fled the residence for their safety before officers arrived. 

The suspect, identified as Robtavios Orlando Reed, 42, was Kimberly Reed’s husband and also resided at the Park Village Drive residence.

Information regarding Reed and his vehicle was provided to surrounding law enforcement agencies. Reed was later located in Forsyth County and taken into custody. A handgun was recovered during the investigation.

Reed was transported to the Canton Police Department to be interviewed by detectives and was later booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on the following charges:

• Three counts of Aggravated Assault, Family Violence

• Two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission or Attempted Commission of a Crime

• One count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

• One count of False Imprisonment

The incident remains under investigation by the Canton Police Department Detective Unit.

“This was a serious domestic violence incident, and our officers acted quickly to render aid, identify the suspect, and coordinate with our law enforcement partners to take him into custody,” said Chief Marty Ferrell. “We are grateful for the assistance of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, and Cherokee County EMS. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and her family during this difficult time.” 

Additional information will be released as appropriate and as the investigation allows.

All persons accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
